As a sauna contractor based in Canggu, we are a workshop that designs and fabricates dry saunas, infrared rooms, steam rooms and chiller-driven cold plunges, then handles the whole install at villas, recovery studios and resorts island-wide. Building for Bali's climate is a different job entirely
Relative humidity sits at 80–90 % across Bali for most of the year, and along the coastline — Berawa up through Batu Bolong, Pererenan and Seseh, then again on the Bukit around Bingin and Uluwatu — the air is also carrying salt. Add tap and well water that leaves the pipe at 28–30 °C, and there are three conditions that dictate the build before a single design choice gets made: a taped foil vapour barrier with a 20 mm gap behind the cladding, stainless hardware in place of anything zinc-plated, a roof over every outdoor cabin, and a chiller rated at ½ HP or more on any plunge. None of that comes standard on a kit built for a Scandinavian back garden.
The properties themselves vary just as much. A rice-field villa in Pererenan or Cemagi usually has a pool deck with space to spare for a cabin and a tub side by side. A cliff-edge villa above Bingin is reached by concrete steps or a narrow lane, so the whole job has to travel up in sections light enough for two people to carry. Jungle villas over the Ubud river valleys stay damp long after the wet season ends, and older compounds in Seminyak or Umalas are often still wired for 2,200–5,500 VA. Rather than send a standard box and hope, we design each cabin in the workshop around the site it is going into.
There is a commercial logic underneath all of this too. The number of villas for rent across Canggu, Uluwatu and Ubud has climbed fast since 2022, listing platforms now let guests filter by amenities like ‘sauna’, and new recovery studios keep opening up and down Batu Bolong and Pererenan. A sauna-and-plunge combination is unusual in that it earns its keep in three places at once — the search filter, the review, and the rate you can charge. Search in Indonesian for jasa pembuatan sauna di Bali or in English for a Bali sauna builder and the underlying requirement does not change: a cabin that still smells and looks right after three wet seasons, not one. Timing matters here as much as materials — a quote signed this month usually means outdoor foundations are poured early, before the rains settle in around November, while indoor cabins carry on through the wet season, with the 4–6 day heater shipment from Java already built into that schedule. Owners who want the sauna live for the holiday booking peak need to start now, not once the wet season is underway.

The engineering behind it, without the sales talk
Structural panel, 50 mm rockwool, an aluminium-foil vapour barrier, then a 20 mm ventilation gap before the cedar or thermowood goes on. Leave out the foil and the gap and a Bali cabin will mould from the inside within 2–3 years.
Most villas sit somewhere between 1,300 and 5,500 VA. An infrared cabin at 1.7–2.4 kW runs on that without changes; a 6–9 kW heater calls for a PLN upgrade to 7,700–11,000 VA — applied for and paid by the owner — plus SiHF cabling, a dedicated breaker and an ELCB.
Bali tap water already sits at 28–30 °C before a chiller does anything to it. A ½–1 HP unit brings a plunge down to 3–15 °C and holds it there, while ozone or UV filtration keeps the water clear for weeks between changes.
Stainless fixings and heater guards, 8 mm tempered glass, and a roof over anything built outdoors. Along the coast from Berawa to Bingin, salt air will eat through zinc-plated steel in a single season.

We run it up to temperature with you there to see it, then hand over the keys along with the 2-year structural warranty and a care sheet.
Questions we hear most from villa owners
Does adding a sauna actually help a rental villa's bookings?
It shows up in two places that matter for bookings: search filters, where ‘sauna’ and ‘ice bath’ are now common amenity checkboxes on the big listing platforms, and in reviews, where guests mention it by name once they've stayed. We don't track your booking numbers, so we can't promise a payback period, but owners tell us it comes up constantly in guest messages before they even book. Can you build while the villa is still taking guests?
Yes — most of our jobs run exactly this way. Fabrication happens off-site in our workshop, so the on-site work is limited to foundation, assembly and wiring, which we schedule around checkout gaps rather than closing the property. A four-week gap between bookings is enough for a full sauna and plunge; a prefab cabin or an infrared room can go in over a single long weekend. We coordinate directly with the villa manager or housekeeping team, so nobody arrives to find the pool deck torn up mid-stay.
Will the cabin actually match our villa's existing timber and stone?
It's usually the first question a villa manager asks, and it shapes the cladding choice as much as budget does. Cedar and thermowood read warm against teak and merbau interiors; a glass-fronted cabin with a stone accent wall suits a more contemporary build instead. We work from photos of the room before quoting, and the visualisation stage shows the cabin sitting in your actual space rather than a generic render, so nothing about the finish is a surprise once the panels arrive.
What villa power supply does a sauna or ice bath actually need?
An infrared cabin or a chiller-only ice bath runs on 1.7–2.4 kW and fits almost any villa meter untouched. A 6 kW heater for a four-person dry sauna needs 7,700 VA, and anything above eight people usually calls for a PLN upgrade to 11,000 VA or three-phase, which the owner applies for and pays; we confirm the exact figure from a photo of your meter before quoting, so there are no surprises later.
Do you build outdoor cabins for pool decks and gardens?
It's the most requested layout from Pererenan to Ubud, mostly because an outdoor cabin photographs better for a listing than an indoor one does. Every outdoor build gets a pitched roof, a raised hardwood base and stainless fixings, so it survives actual rain and sun rather than just the idea of them. Expect IDR 80–150 million and 1–2 weeks on site once the panels leave the workshop — see the outdoor and luxury cabin page for finishes.
Do you deliver and install on Nusa Lembongan or the Gilis?
We do. Panels travel by cargo boat from Sanur or Padangbai and a two-person crew assembles on site — the same process as a mainland install, just with a tide table added to the schedule. Heaters and chillers are imported from Java and take 4–6 days to clear and reach Bali by truck and ferry, so island jobs generally carry an extra week compared with a Canggu or Ubud build.
