Sauna Canggu is a sauna builder in Bali that designs and builds custom dry saunas, infrared cabins, steam rooms and chiller-based ice baths in its own workshop near Canggu, then installs them at villas, recovery studios and resorts across the island. Indicative range: IDR 60–120 million (approx. USD 3,600–7,300) for a four-person cedar sauna, 2–4 weeks on site.

Why a sauna in Bali needs a builder who lives with the climate

Bali runs at 80–90 % relative humidity most of the year. Along the coast, from Berawa and Batu Bolong up to Pererenan and Seseh, and again on the Bukit around Bingin and Uluwatu, the air also carries salt. Tap and well water arrive at 28–30 °C. Those three facts decide how a sauna or ice bath has to be built here: a foil vapour barrier and a 20 mm vented gap behind the cladding, stainless fixings instead of zinc-plated, a roof over any outdoor cabin, and a chiller of at least ½ HP on every plunge. An import kit designed for a Finnish garden does none of that by default.

The properties are different too. Rice-field villas in Pererenan and Cemagi have pool decks with room for a cabin and a tub. Cliff villas in Bingin are reached by steep concrete lanes or stairs, so everything arrives in panels a person can carry. Jungle villas above the river valleys of Ubud stay damp through the wet season. Older compounds in Seminyak and Umalas sit on 2,200–5,500 VA meters. We build each cabin in our workshop to the site, not the other way round.

And there is a commercial reason. Villa supply across Canggu, Uluwatu and Ubud has grown fast since 2022, guests filter listings by amenities such as ‘sauna’, and recovery studios keep opening along Batu Bolong and Pererenan. A sauna and plunge set is one of the few upgrades that shows up in a listing filter, in reviews and in the nightly rate at the same time. Whether you search for jasa pembuatan sauna di Bali or for a sauna builder in English, you need the same thing: a cabin that still looks and smells right after three wet seasons.

Tropical engineering, in plain terms

Wall build-up that beats mould

Panel, 50 mm rockwool, aluminium-foil vapour barrier, 20 mm ventilation gap, then cedar or thermowood. Skip the foil and the gap and a cabin in Bali moulds inside 2–3 years.

Power that matches your meter

Many villas run 1,300–5,500 VA. An infrared cabin draws 1.7–2.4 kW and runs on that; a 6–9 kW heater needs a PLN upgrade to 7,700–11,000 VA, paid by the owner, plus SiHF cabling, its own breaker and an ELCB.

Chillers sized for 30 °C water

Tap water in Bali arrives at 28–30 °C. A ½–1 HP chiller holds a plunge at 3–15 °C; filtration with ozone or UV keeps the water clear for weeks.

Coastal-grade hardware

Stainless fixings, stainless heater guards, 8 mm tempered glass and a roof over every outdoor cabin. Salt air from Berawa to Bingin eats zinc-plated steel within a season.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a sauna cost in Bali?

Indicatively, a custom 2×2 m dry sauna for four people is IDR 60–120 million (approx. USD 3,600–7,300), an infrared cabin for one or two IDR 30–70 million, a prefab cabin delivered and installed IDR 15–35 million, and a roofed outdoor cabin IDR 80–150 million. A wooden cold plunge with chiller adds IDR 45–90 million. The full list is on the pricing page.

Can I run a sauna on a 3,500 or 5,500 VA villa supply?

An infrared cabin draws 1.7–2.4 kW and runs on most villa meters without an upgrade. A 3.6 kW heater for a two-person cabin fits 5,500 VA. A 6–9 kW heater for a four- to eight-person sauna needs a PLN upgrade to 7,700–11,000 VA, which the owner applies and pays for; we size the cabin around whichever supply you can get.

Do you build outdoor saunas for villas?

Yes, and outdoor is the most common request from Pererenan to Ubud. Every outdoor cabin gets a proper roof against rain and UV, a raised base, hardwood decking and stainless fixings. Indicative price IDR 80–150 million, 1–2 weeks on site once the panels leave the workshop. See custom and outdoor saunas.

How cold can an ice bath get in Bali's heat?

With tap water at around 30 °C, a ½ HP chiller holds a single tub at 8–15 °C and a 1 HP unit holds 3–10 °C, even through an afternoon of use. Bags of ice only manage an hour or two. Details are on the ice bath and cold plunge page.

Do you deliver to Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida or the Gilis?

Yes. Cabins travel as panels on cargo boats from Sanur or Padangbai, and a two-person team assembles on the island. Freight and travel are quoted separately; imported heaters reach Bali from Java by truck and ferry in 4–6 days, so allow an extra week on island projects.

Do you import kits or build the saunas yourselves?

We build the cabins and tubs ourselves in our workshop near Canggu: sandwich walls, cedar or thermowood cladding, aspen benches, 8 mm tempered glass. Heaters are imported Harvia, Sawo or Tylö units with spare parts held locally, and chillers are ½–1 HP units we have run through Bali afternoons. More on the about page.
