Custom luxury sauna in Bali: glass, stone and light for villas
Glass-front and roofed outdoor designer cabins with stone, LED and thermowood, for villas that need to photograph as well as they heat.
A custom luxury sauna from Sauna Canggu is a designer cabin, indoors or as a roofed outdoor sauna for a Bali villa, with full-height tempered glass, stone or onyx feature walls, LED and floating thermowood benches, for villa owners, boutique hotels and retreat founders. Indicative price IDR 80–150 million (approx. USD 4,800–9,100) for an outdoor cabin; 4–6 weeks in total.

Design elements that survive Bali's climate
Luxury in a sauna is mostly about what you see through the glass and how the light falls on the wood, and neither survives long in Bali unless the engineering underneath is right. We start with 8 mm tempered glass in full-height panels, framed in cedar or thermowood, with silicone joints rated for 100 °C and daily wetting. Feature walls are stone or backlit onyx set on a cement board that is isolated from the timber frame, so movement in the wood never cracks the stone. Benches are floating thermowood or aspen, cantilevered off a hidden steel frame, with LED strips beneath them running on low-voltage drivers mounted outside the hot zone.
The heater is usually hidden inside a stone or slatted enclosure with a guard, which frees the benches to run the full width of the room. Behind every finish the wall is still the same sandwich we use on every custom sauna in Bali: panel, 50 mm rockwool, foil vapour barrier, 20 mm vented gap, cladding. Along the coast from Berawa to Seseh and on the Bukit above Bingin, salt air reaches indoors as well, so hinges, handles, fixings and heater guards are stainless throughout.

Outdoor sauna for a Bali villa: roof, deck and porch
Most luxury requests we get in Pererenan, Cemagi and Ubud are for an outdoor sauna on the pool deck or at the edge of a rice field, with the glass wall facing the view. An outdoor cabin in Bali needs three things a garden sauna in Europe does not: a proper roof with an overhang of at least 40 cm against monsoon rain and UV, a raised base of concrete or hardwood so the cabin never sits in standing water, and a small covered porch so towels and a bench stay dry. Decking and steps are ulin or bengkirai, the two local hardwoods that shrug off termites and rain; the cabin itself stays cedar or thermowood. Where a plunge sits beside the cabin, which is usually the point of the exercise, we run the chiller lines and drainage in the same trench; the cold plunge page covers the tub side.
Timeline for an outdoor cabin is 1–2 weeks on site after 2–3 weeks of fabrication; indoor glass-front cabins take 2–4 weeks on site because the electrics and stone work are done in place. Indicative price for a roofed outdoor cabin is IDR 80–150 million (approx. USD 4,800–9,100); an indoor glass-front 2×2 m cabin runs IDR 60–120 million, with stone, onyx and lighting adding to the top of that range.
Power and heaters for a custom luxury sauna in Bali
A four-person glass-front cabin takes a 6 kW heater; six- and eight-person rooms take 8–9 kW; retreat saunas for ten or twelve run 10.5–12 kW on three-phase. Anything beyond 3.6 kW needs a PLN supply of 7,700–11,000 VA, and villas in Umalas, Seminyak and older parts of Sanur often sit at 2,200–5,500 VA. The upgrade is applied for and paid by the owner; we give you the exact figure to request. The heater circuit is SiHF heat-resistant cable on its own breaker with an ELCB, and the LED drivers and any sound system sit on a separate circuit outside the hot zone. Heaters are Harvia, Sawo or Tylö, imported with spare parts on the island and a 1–2 year factory warranty; the structure, glass and stone carry our 2-year warranty. If a luxury finish is the goal but power is fixed at 3,500 VA, a designed-in infrared cabin is the realistic route, and the price list shows the difference.

Frequently asked questions
Does a glass wall make the sauna harder to heat?
Slightly. Glass loses more heat than an insulated wall, so a glass-front 2×2 m cabin gets the 6 kW heater a timber cabin could run at 4.5 kW, and warm-up is a few minutes longer. In Bali's 30 °C ambient the difference is small.
Can the sauna face the rice field or the sea without fading?
Yes, if the roof overhang shades the glass through the middle of the day. UV bleaches cedar and heats the glass unevenly; an overhang of 40–60 cm on the sun side, or a slatted screen, keeps the view and protects the wood. We orientate the cabin during the survey.
How do you keep an outdoor cabin dry through the wet season?
Raised base, roof with overhang, drip edges above the door and stainless hardware. The wall build-up with foil and a vented gap does the rest. We also ask owners to run the heater for 15 minutes once a week in the wet season if the sauna is not in regular use, which dries the cladding from inside.
