Sauna and ice bath builder in Canggu and Pererenan

Home turf: rice-field villas, recovery studios and salt air from Berawa to Seseh.

Canggu and Pererenan are where Sauna Canggu is based, so a survey here is same-day or next-day. The zone runs from Berawa and Batu Bolong through Canggu village to Pererenan, Seseh and Cemagi: new rental villas on rice-field plots, townhouses, and a growing strip of recovery studios. Salt air and 3,500–5,500 VA meters are the two things every build has to respect.

Villas, plots and studios in Canggu and Pererenan

The housing here is younger than anywhere else on the island. Most villas in Canggu, Berawa and Pererenan were built or rebuilt after 2018, on plots that were rice fields a decade ago, and a large share are run as short-term rentals through management companies. Typical layouts give us a pool deck with 3–4 m of spare length, a pool house or a fourth bedroom that is really a store, and a boundary wall that hides an outdoor cabin from the road. Villas advertise the same amenities to the same booking platforms, so a sauna and a cold plunge are a filterable difference rather than a nice-to-have, which is why the glass-front outdoor cabin with a plunge beside it is our most common Pererenan build. Guesthouses and co-living blocks around Batu Bolong and Canggu village ask for the two-person cabin or an infrared unit instead, because the space is a single room and the meter is often 3,500 VA.

Then there are the studios. Recovery and contrast-therapy businesses have opened along Jalan Batu Bolong, Jalan Pantai Berawa and the Pererenan main road, and more are fitting out. These want a sauna for 8–12 people on 11,000 VA or three-phase, two or three plunges with 1 HP chillers, showers and a floor that drains; the recovery studio guide sets out the numbers.

Salt air, power and access in Canggu and Pererenan

The whole zone sits within 2 km of the sea, and the south-west wind carries salt inland through the dry season. Zinc-plated screws rust in a season, mild-steel heater guards in two; we use stainless fixings and guards on every Canggu build, rinse chiller condensers monthly on the beachfront, and keep infrared electronics in air-conditioned rooms. Humidity is the island standard, 80–90 %, so the foil vapour barrier and 20 mm vented gap behind the cladding are not optional. Outdoor cabins get a roof with a 40–60 cm overhang and a raised hardwood base, because Pererenan's rice-field plots sit low and flood at the edges in January.

Power is usually 3,500–5,500 VA on villas built before 2020 and 7,700 VA or more on newer ones; a 6–9 kW heater needs 7,700–11,000 VA, which the owner applies for and pays, and the local PLN office handles Canggu upgrades in a few weeks. Chillers and infrared cabins run on what is already there. Access is the daily irritation: the shortcut lanes between Berawa and Pererenan are single-track and jam at 17:00, so deliveries come early morning on a pickup, and every panel is sized to be carried by two people through a 90 cm gate. Delivery inside the zone is included in the price; see the price list and the outdoor cabin page.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can you survey a villa in Pererenan?

Usually the same day or the next working day; the workshop is a short drive away. Send photos of the spot and the meter box first and the survey takes under an hour.

Will salt air ruin a sauna in Berawa?

Not one built for it. Stainless fixings, a stainless heater guard, cedar or thermowood cladding and a roof over any outdoor cabin are the four things that matter; the cabin is then fine within 200 m of the beach.

Can a rental villa in Canggu run a sauna on 5,500 VA?

A two-person cabin with a 3.6 kW heater, an infrared cabin or a cold plunge, yes. A four-person cabin with a 6 kW heater needs 7,700 VA; most Canggu owners apply for the upgrade during the build.
