Who a prefab sauna cabin suits in Bali

The prefab cabin exists for three kinds of buyer. The first is the guesthouse or four-room villa in Umalas, Sanur or Penestanan that wants ‘sauna’ in its listing without a construction project. The second is the long-term renter in Berawa or Pererenan who cannot alter the building but can put a freestanding cabin in a spare room and take it along when the lease ends. The third is the owner who simply wants to try sauna life before committing to a custom room. All three get the same 1.5×1.2 m cabin with one bench, a 3.6 kW heater, an 8 mm tempered-glass door and a heater guard.

What the prefab cabin is not is a thin-walled box. Bali's 80–90 % humidity does not care whether a sauna was custom or standard, so the panels are the same sandwich we use everywhere: outer panel, 50 mm rockwool, foil vapour barrier, 20 mm vented gap, then spruce or pine cladding with an aspen bench. The difference from a custom dry sauna is only that the sizes are fixed, the timber is the budget end of the range and the cabin is held in stock rather than drawn for your room.

Prefab sauna installation in Bali: what happens on the day

Sauna installation in Bali for a prefab cabin takes 1–2 days. The cabin arrives as six wall and roof panels, a bench and a heater on a pickup; nothing is heavier than two people can carry, which matters in Seminyak lanes where a truck cannot turn and in Bingin villas reached by stairs. Day one is assembly, levelling and fitting the door. Day two is the electrical connection: a dedicated circuit in SiHF heat-resistant cable, its own breaker and an ELCB, then a test heating with you present. We fit a small exhaust vent through an external wall or window panel where the cabin sits in an air-conditioned room.

The floor needs to be tiled or sealed concrete, level to within a centimetre, and ideally with a drain nearby for mopping. Terraces work if there is a roof; a prefab cabin in the open under Bali rain and UV does not last, so for a garden position we point owners to a roofed outdoor cabin instead.

Power, running cost and delivery across the island

The 3.6 kW heater runs on a 5,500 VA supply with the villa's air-conditioning on. On a 3,500 VA meter it works only if the heavy loads are off while the sauna warms up, and on 2,200 VA it does not; there, an infrared cabin at 1.7–2.4 kW is the right choice, and a PLN upgrade, if you want one, is applied for and paid by the owner. Running cost at typical villa use is IDR 200,000–500,000 per month.

Delivery inside Badung and Denpasar, from Canggu to Nusa Dua, is included in the price. Ubud and Gianyar carry a small transport charge, Nusa Lembongan and the Gili islands go by cargo boat with freight quoted separately, and a heater or accessory that has to come from Java takes 4–6 days by truck and ferry.
