Prefab sauna cabin for Bali villas, installed in a day or two

Who actually buys the prefab option

Three kinds of buyer keep coming back to the prefab cabin. First, the guesthouse or four-room villa in Umalas, Sanur or Penestanan that wants ‘sauna’ on its amenity list without taking on a construction project. Second, the long-term renter in Berawa or Pererenan who cannot touch the building itself but can drop a freestanding cabin into a spare room and take it along when the lease ends. Third, the owner who wants to try sauna life for real before committing to a custom room. All three walk away with the identical 1.5×1.2 m cabin: one bench, a 3.6 kW heater, an 8 mm tempered-glass door and a heater guard.

What it is not, though, is a thin-walled box. Bali's 80–90 % humidity does not care whether a cabin is labelled custom or standard, so the panel build is identical everywhere we use it: outer panel, 50 mm rockwool, foil vapour barrier, 20 mm vented gap, then spruce or pine cladding over an aspen bench. The only real differences from a custom dry sauna are that the dimensions are fixed, the timber sits at the budget end of the range, and the cabin comes off the shelf rather than being drawn up for your specific room.

What actually happens on installation day

A prefab install runs 1–2 days from start to finish. The cabin shows up as six wall and roof panels, a bench and a heater, all on a single pickup — nothing heavier than two people can lift, which matters in Seminyak lanes a truck cannot turn into and in Bingin villas reached only by stairs. The first day covers assembly, levelling and fitting the door; the second is the electrical connection — a dedicated circuit in SiHF heat-resistant cable, its own breaker and an ELCB — followed by a test heating with you watching. Where the cabin sits inside an air-conditioned room, we also fit a small exhaust vent through an external wall or window panel.

The floor has to be tiled or sealed concrete, level within a centimetre, ideally with a drain somewhere nearby for mopping out. A terrace works fine as long as it is roofed; leave a prefab cabin exposed to Bali rain and UV and it will not last, so for an open garden spot we steer owners toward a roofed outdoor cabin instead.

Power draw, running cost and getting it to site

A 5,500 VA supply runs the 3.6 kW heater with the villa's air-conditioning left on. Drop to 3,500 VA and it only works if other heavy loads are switched off while the sauna warms up; on 2,200 VA it simply will not run, and that is where an infrared cabin at 1.7–2.4 kW becomes the sensible choice instead — a PLN upgrade, if you would rather have one, is applied for and paid by the owner. Typical villa use runs IDR 200,000–500,000 a month in electricity.

Delivery anywhere inside Badung and Denpasar — Canggu through to Nusa Dua — is already folded into the price. Ubud and Gianyar add a small transport charge, Nusa Lembongan and the Gilis go by cargo boat with freight quoted on its own, and anything sourced from Java takes 4–6 days by truck and ferry to arrive. What it costs, option by option

Ballpark figures in IDR — IDR 15–35 million converts to roughly USD 900–2,100 at IDR 16,500 per USD — with delivery inside Badung and Denpasar already factored in.
